Overall, the New American Bible is a relatively good English translation of the Bible. As stated above, there are several versions of the NAB, some using dynamic (thought-for-thought) equivalence and some using formal (word-for-word) equivalence. The NAB was translated from original Hebrew and Greek manuscripts, the Septuagint and the Dead Sea Scrolls for the NT and OT, with some influence from the Vulgate in the Apocrypha. Like all Catholic Bibles, the NAB includes the deuterocanonical (apocryphal) books. It succeeds in being, at the same time, loose, stilted, breezy, vulgar, opaque, and relentlessly averse to literary grace.” It is, not to put too fine a point on it, a wretched translation. The lectionaries and the several publishers of Mass guides, however, use only the NAB. Richard John Neuhaus described the confused state of affairs surrounding Roman Catholic Bible versions in 2001: “At present, three translations are approved for Catholic liturgical use: the New Jerusalem Bible, the RSV, and the New American Bible (NAB). Pope John Paul II and other Vatican officials were not happy with this version, mainly because of the inclusive language, which was mandated by liturgical guidelines issued by a committee of the U.S. Shortly after the publication of the complete Bible, American bishops decided that the 1970 NAB New Testament leaned too much on paraphrasing rather than translation for general use, and so the New Testament was "revised" and published in 1986, employing dynamic equivalence (thought-for-thought) translation in places for the sake of inclusive, gender-neutral language. It was specifically translated into English by the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine under the liturgical principles and reforms of the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) after a long and confused history of translation, re-translation, revision and re-revision beginning in 1943 with Pope Pius XII’s encyclical letter. Not to be confused with the New American Standard Bible, the New American Bible (NAB) is a Catholic Bible translation first published in 1970.

Each day, students worked for three hours at farm labor. One interesting feature of the school was its manual labor component. The Virginia Baptist Seminary offered courses in Latin, Greek, and mathematics. This farm was the home of the Virginia Baptist Seminary which opened July 1, 1832, and began classes July 4 under the leadership of Robert Ryland. After two years, the society purchased for $4,000 "Spring Farm," located about five miles north of Richmond. In August 1830, William Allgood, the first student of this ministry school, came to Baptist's Dunlora Plantation to attend classes in "a building of three or four rooms." The school, eventually known as Dunlora Academy, enrolled nine students overall in its first year. Edward Baptist, "to accept into his home young men wishing to prepare for the ministry." Baptist was an 1813 graduate of Hampden–Sydney College. In the meantime, they asked their vice-president, Rev. However, the society did not have enough funds for a proper school yet. The BGAV resolved "that the Baptists of this State form an education society for the improvement of the ministry." Thus, the Virginia Baptist Education Society was instituted. In the second opening of Attack on Titan, we can see this weird organism around the 1:14 timestamp if you watch the opening in slow motion. This was a major hint towards the existence of life flourishing outside the walls, including humans! 3) The Final Organism In Op 2: Ymir, however, refers to him as a ‘monkey’.Įren repeats a monkey?’ In the original Japanese text, Ymir says ‘monkey’ using kanji, but Eren uses katakana, implying that he just repeated the word without understanding its meaning. 2) Eren Doesn’t Know What A Monkey Is:ĭuring season 2, the Scouts nickname the ape-looking titan ‘Beast titan’, since they have never seen an ape. However, everybody considered it to simply be Eren blabbering in a rage since that’s the only explanation behind it.īut, the revelation of the Attack Titan’s time-transcending abilities makes it a fair guess that Eren was under the influence of his future self perhaps even controlled by it. These things are rather uncharacteristic of Eren to say at the current point of the series. The most distinct difference was how Eren’s voice was borderline “evil” or demonic as he yelled “I’ll destroy the entire world” and “I am free…” seemingly out of nowhere. During this scene, some people also noticed a few differences in Eren.Įren had blue eyes instead of green and noticeably sharper teeth. While you may be aware of many, we’re here to bring a list of 10 Things we believe you might’ve missed in Attack of Titan! 1) Eren’s Titan During Eren vs Female Titan:ĭuring Eren’s final fight against Annie, we witnessed the monstrous side of Eren as he brutalized Annie. That’s probably why this death had Twitter so shook recently.Attack on Titan is notoriously popular for its attention to detail! Ever since the very first episode of Attack on Titan aired, people realized that the show has a lot of underlying meaning behind its visuals, dialogues, body language, etc. It’s a culmination of the two things that make the deaths on Attack on Titan so terrifying: watching the greatest heroes die while also seeing human beings be ripped to shreds by monsters. It’s easily the most gruesome death the show has depicted so far. He weeps and pleads fruitlessly as his screams peak and then stop completely. But when Zacharias couldn’t respond to the Beast Titan’s questions, it took his 3D maneuvering device, leaving Zacharias utterly defenseless as a handful of regular Titans ripped him to pieces. Despite being the second-best soldier of them all, he was caught off-guard by the new Beast Titan.Īfter the new Titan threw Zacharias’s horse at him, he got the lower half of his body chomped by a small Titan. You’ll probably remember him as the “sniffing guy,” but Mike Zacharias was an elite member of the Scout Regiment whose skill was supposedly surpassed only by the great Captain Levi. This post contains spoilers for Season 1 and 2 of Attack on Titan. So here are the most horrifying deaths from the show, ignoring the 5 original video animations (OVAs) not included in Season 1 but including the newest episodes from Season 2. You thought Game of Thrones was fond of killing off major characters in grisly ways? Welcome to Attack on Titan, where its lead character was once dismembered and eaten alive. There’s very little that even the most skilled humans can do to stop them - even with 3D maneuvering gear allowing them to zip around like Spider-Man - and as such, Attack on Titan more often than not grapples with the suffering associated with losing friends and family to the horrors of a war in which the enemy is prone to biting your head off.Īs you might expect, an anime in which slack-jawed giants eat humans for fun is a setting rife with truly gruesome deaths. The “Titans,” as they are known, vary in height, but the vast majority of them are driven to devour humans (and it’s not even for nourishment). The remnants of mankind live inside a series of walls protecting them from the gluttonous giants that roam what’s left of the world. One of the most recently beloved but utterly gruesome anime out there, Attack on Titan represents a horrifying fusion of kaiju and zombie tropes set in a post-apocalyptic world. Paying more if you can allows you to feel invested in a supportive community. Paying according to one’s resources creates a more equitable, diverse and sustainable community. This includes paying our teachers a fair wage, covering our insurance, maintaining our tools and facilities, administering the program, and supporting our family. The true cost of running a Hammerstone Class falls in the middle of the sliding scale range. Hammerstone does not rely on grants or any other outside funding therefore we structure our sliding scale so that the upper tiers of the scale subsidize the lower tiers. Many organizations that use sliding scales are able to fill the economic gap with outside funding. If implemented successfully, everyone pays a similar percentage of their income for the same service. It requires full participation and thoughtful consideration in order to function. The goal of a sliding scale is to build economic justice. Therfore, we are instituting a sliding scale for all of our classes.Ī sliding scale is a tool that allows us to offer services to a wide range of economic groups while maintaining a sustainable business. In the past we have offered scholarships to increase the accessibility of our courses, but the challenges of 2020 have increased our resovle to do more to promote equity. We recognize that the fixed prices of our courses hinders access for women who may benefit the most from this knowledge and these skills. Hammerstone serves women, a group traditionally under-represented in the trades, in order to increase their self sufficiency and support their possible entry into a career in the trades.
